Gerrie Janse van Vuuren is a South African producer and cinematographer with a passion for telling authentic stories through powerful, cinematic imagery. Working across documentary, television, branded content and commercial filmmaking, he brings together a strong visual instinct with a producer’s understanding of story, people and production. His work has taken him from intimate human-interest stories and remote locations to large-scale corporate and broadcast productions, always with the same focus: finding the heart of the story and translating it into images that connect with an audience. As the founder of SILO art motion stills, Gerrie believes great content should not only look beautiful — it should feel honest, purposeful and memorable.

I am Karla Janse van Vuuren, a creative with an honours degree in Journalism and English and 18 years of experience in the media industry. I bring my talent for writing, attention to detail, and excellent administrative and time management skills to Silo Art Motion Stills. I am also an enthusiastic researcher, and I never hesitate to reach out to those who could add to or improve our stories, and ultimately, the product we deliver. I work behind the scenes, ensuring quality and timely communication, and excellence in the written word. My great interview and people skills ensure that I build relationships with others that last long after the project is completed.

Nicolaas Viljoen

Writer | Producer

I am a South African producer and writer with a passion for character-driven stories that feel honest, human and emotionally engaging. After completing my BA degree in Film at AFDA Johannesburg in 2009, I focused my career on developing and producing distinctive South African stories for the screen. I made my debut as a writer and producer with the kykNET short documentary Jan Bloed and currently serve as co-producer of the VIA series Erfenis in die Grond. I enjoy taking an idea from its earliest concept through development and production, always with a strong focus on story, character and emotional authenticity. Documentary storytelling is particularly close to my heart. I am drawn to stories about South Africa, its people, communities, heritage and history, and to uncovering the extraordinary within ordinary lives. My goal is simple: to create South African stories that resonate locally and connect with audiences around the world.

Marelize Engelbrecht

Director | Scriptwriter

I currently serve as a Director and Scriptwriter with SILO. My work in film is strongly informed by over 30 years of professional experience in theatre, where I have worked as a theatre practitioner, director, actor, and drama coach. This gives me a distinctive approach to both directing and scriptwriting, particularly in the areas of storytelling, character-driven narratives, actor direction, dialogue, physicality, and creative visual interpretation. I bring the discipline and depth of theatre together with the cinematic possibilities of film, creating work that is both performance-led and visually compelling.

I’m a passionate video editor with eight years of professional experience and an Honours degree in Film & Television, specialising in documentary, factual, and story-driven content. I love transforming raw footage into authentic, emotionally engaging stories that connect with audiences and give people a voice. With experience editing both English and Afrikaans productions, I bring a strong narrative instinct, attention to detail, and a thoughtful approach to every project. From multi-cam and interviews to archive, music, sound, graphics, and colour, I enjoy shaping every element of the edit to serve the story. My background in journalism has strengthened my commitment to truthful storytelling, while my experience across the full post-production process allows me to work confidently from raw footage through to final delivery. Above all, I believe great editing is about finding the moments that make a story feel real.
